    INTRODUCTION

Considered one of the jewels of the city of Cusco, located in the Vilcabamba mountain range at the foot of the snowy Humantay, is the fascinating Humantay Lagoon at an altitude of 4,200m/13,776ft above sea level.

To reach this glacial lagoon, you have to travel from the city of Cusco to the town of Soraypampa, located at 3,900 meters above sea level, near the spectacular snowy peak of Salkantay.

    DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Laguna Humantay.

We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 am in our private transportation to leave the city of Cusco for the town of Mollepata, where we will have breakfast. After breakfast, we will continue our journey to Soraypampa (3,900m/12,795ft), which is the starting point of our hike. We will ascend for 2 hours to the Humantay Lagoon, during which we will see the top of the Humantay Snowy Mountain. Our ascent will be slow, and we recommend that you drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness. 20 minutes before arriving at the lagoon, we will walk in zigzags, which will be our last effort. When we arrive at the lagoon, we will enjoy the view, and the guide will inform you about the history of MAMACOCHA, the Inca deity that represented the lagoons. After spending a good amount of time at the lagoon, we will descend to Soraypampa, where we will have lunch. Then, we will board our private transportation that will take us back to our hotel in Cusco city.

How many days of acclimatization do I need before starting the trek?

We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least 2 days before starting the Laguna Humantay trek to adapt to the altitude and avoid possible altitude sickness. We offer city tours, such as the CITY TOUR, SACRED VALLEY, MARAS MORAY, and MARAS SALT MINES, as well as WALKING TOURS to help you acclimatize to the altitude.

Season: Any month of the year (rainy season from December to March).

    Briefing:

The briefing meeting is held one night before the start of the trek, where you will receive information about the Laguna Humantay hike. This meeting usually lasts for 30 to 45 minutes. If you are unable to attend, please contact us by email to arrange another meeting time with your guide.

NOTE: You will also need a backpack to carry your personal items, such as sunscreen, water, rain gear, sunglasses, etc.

    Strikes/Demonstrations:

Unfortunately, strikes are common in Peru and may disrupt our tours. Roads are often blocked, and trains may be stopped. We will do our best to ensure that your trek continues as planned, even if that means leaving the night before the start date. In such circumstances, tours may need to be canceled. However, our operations department will coordinate with you in such situations, and your safety is always our top priority.

    Items Ordered:

Each client is responsible for their belongings throughout the tour. Please be careful where you leave your items, and remember to pick up all your belongings from our transport, stores, restaurants, etc. It is possible for other hikers or teams to pick them up without knowing who the owner is.
